suggested tips for speeding up IE on Windchill

Hi,
IE runs extremely slow as when compared with Firefox for our sandbox installation. So far the suggestions I have are use Firefox (which may not always be an option) and IE8. I don't think IE 8 is supported yet so I don't think we want to do that.
Other suggestions?

Thanks,

Below is a standard list of checks and changes that we advise customers and
DEK personnel to go through.
We have discovered that there are some simple steps you can take to help
prevent errors:

Procedure: -

Launch Internet Explorer 7
Select Tools Menu and then Internet Options (You may need to right click on
one of the toolbars to then click the Menu Bar to show it)

On the General tab, click 'Delete' and either click the first 4 delete
buttons or the 'Delete All' button then click on 'Close'

On the 'Security' tab, click each of the following icons, Internet, Local
Intranet and Restricted Sites in turn and click the 'Default Level' button.
For Trusted Sites Change the setting to Medium-Low

(Embedded image moved to file: pic00288.jpg)

Click on the Trusted Sites icon and then click on "Custom Level"
Scroll down to Downloads and set Automatic Prompting for File Downloads to
"Enabled"
Click on "OK" and click on "Yes" to the warning dialogue

On the Privacy Tab ensure that 'Turn on POP-Up blocker is not selected
(Embedded image moved to file: pic09040.jpg)

On the 'Advanced' tab, click 'Restore Advanced Settings'.

Still on the 'Advanced' tab, scroll down to 'Enable FTP folder View
(Outside of Internet Explorer)' and uncheck the box.
Scroll further down to 'Use http1.1 through proxy connections' and check
the box.
Scroll further down and select 'Disable Phishing Filter"
Scroll down still further, to ' Use SSL 2.0' and 'Use TLS 1.0' and check
the box's.

Click 'OK' to close the properties dialogue box.

Open Internet Explorer and click 'Tools', 'Windows Update'.

Follow the instructions on the screen. Select 'Express'
When the updates have finished, type in the web address as follows:

Andrew,

There are many opportunities for optimizing ProE and IE for PDMLink and corresponding workspace functionality. I would start with the PTC Knowledge Base for TPI 141290(which makes reference to appropriate BP documentation and some other TPI's including the IE hotfix) and the performance whitepaper.

In general, I also recommend some deployment support from PTC Global Services, particularly for ProI migrations. Plenty of customers have performed migrations on their own, but I have also seen several fail with fairly catastrophic results - best to take the safe route and mitigate risk with corporate IP. As part of the migration effort, you can make sure that PDMLink or Pro/I is configured properly and optimized for performance. A successful, performant deployment willalsohelp mitigate end-user adoption pitfalls.

As for IE versus Firefox, there is a general performance difference due to how the browser handle javascript and also handle refresh commands. Please see TPI 141283 regarding best practices (use direct urls versus "refresh" icon or F5). Firefox 3.5 is NOT supported with ProE until production Wildfire 5 and is supported as the standalone browser as of R9.1 M020. Earlier versions of Firefox are supported with PDMLink but you should refer to the platform support guide for more details.

Hope this helps!

Steve
