It most likely has something to do with references. Try backing up to disk, removing from the workspace, and then reopening from disk. Also take a look at the reference viewer.
Maybe a long shot but check w your admin, if they could look in the methodserver log files and perhaps there would be a little more detail of what object was causing this exception, or see what was processing right before the exceptions started.
