Recursive definition problem when extracting real part of equation

Hi everyone,

For my thesis work I am building a tool to evaluate the notched stress field in orthotropic fields. For this I need to extract the real part of an imaginary function. However, when I try to take the real part MathCAD 14 returns "recursive definition"-error. No idea what is going wrong as the variable has not been defined.

Can you find out?

Many thanks,

ruben

Might be better to calculate real part as in the attached.

Thanks for the help,

This is how you see that I am using MathCAD for only 3 days nowand I don't know everything yet

Great workaround, Alan. Wouldn't have thought of that myself.

But nevertheless I would call it a bug, won't you?

Its the combination of negative exponent and float number that let it fail.

Well, it's certainly a limitation! But it's just one of many such in Mupad, so it's often necessary to look for workarounds when using symbolics in Mathcad.
