3D cross section

hello,

is it possible to make a 3D cross section of a part (assembly) and what's the workflow?

thanks

bern

Yes you can.

You can create an open sketch on a plane and select whatever models you want sections. There are display limitations.

There is also a Zone section. Less intuitive as it seems more of a display function.

And you can make assembly cuts if you need very specific control.

Two questions before going into this further:

1. What version of Creo Parametric/WF/Pro-E are you using?

2. What are you trying to achieve? drawing views; presentation; idle curiosity.... etc.

Hello Antonius,

WF 5

drawing view

I made a 2D cross section of an assembly (one screw tighting together a plate and backplate)

In the drawing the screw is also sectioned...

Is it possible to exclude this screw from the x section in the drawing, so that the screw is full-drawn?

thanks,

bern

Yes, you can select which parts are sectioned.

I don't know where to find that in WF5 but when you create the section, you can select which assembly are sectioned or excluded. There is also the option to include or exclude parts in the edit x-section at the drawing view level. Highlight the x-section in the drawing view and you should have the option to edit it. You get the old x-top menu manager and one of the options is to exclude the highlighted component.

OK...that works nicely.

Thanks Antonius

hello,

does anyone have an example (tutorial) about 3 D cross sections?

thx

bern

The 3D sections that can be used in drawings are created with the Zone cross sections. If you have Creo, once you create the Zone type cross section, it is placed in the footer. Play with the AND/OR selections to control what side of the zone is removed. Typically, this is controlled by a series of datum plane selections.

Once you place this view in a drawing, you can select the 3D section in the view properties dialog. You will not be able to edit the cross hatch pattern, however.

You can do that.
