Can an inheritance sheetmetal part be flattened and add new bends?

I am trying to use the blank from one sheetmetal part to make a new part.  The goal is to have a reference link in Windchill between the two parts to help insure that both models will be considered when a change is needed to one.

I tried creating the new part from an inheritance feature of the current part.  I was able to create the inheritance and unbend all bends.  However, when adding the new bend, the bend feature fails when the bend crosses the boundary of the old bend.

Thanks,

Kevin

Here are the models.

I changed the "relief" to no Relief     The Inside radius to .5 thickness and got this to work
