Copying a part and its drawing to an assembly

Hello,

I have a part and its drawing. I need to make an assembly by using this part and as well as its drawing as new drawing file for my new assembly. Is it possible? Creating a copy of a part drawing as a drawing of an assembly which the original part belongs to. Please ask if it is too vague and I will try my best to clarify it.

Thank you Catalina for your quick reply. Let me clarify it by using screenshots. Let's say I have a part:

And I have a drawing of it:

I need to create an assembly file by using that file:

But also I would like to copy the drawing of the part to the drawing of assembly. With its notes and its views. Since the part is in that assembly I can use drawing of the part in the drawing of the assembly.

Is it possible?

You can import a drawing from another drawing, maybe this will help you! It will copy all the sheets, views, models from one drawing to another

There is also, Copy from other drawing. It allows you to select exactly what you want to copy from one drawing to another.

Overlay is also another command, but it still uses both drawings but one is "shown" on the other drawing, its less commonly used.

Unfortunately, it carries the drawing with its model, part. As a second sheet, it has a drawing which belongs to the part not assembly. I need an assembly drawing with same representations and notes of part.

Is your goal to create an assembly drawing and include in this assembly drawing a sheet with representations of a part? This is possible as a drawing can have more than one model. You can add models to a drawing and activate them to create drawing entities for the active model at the time of creation.

Create the assembly drawing and then add the part as a drawing model and with the part active create the sheet that you need within the assembly drawing.

So, maybe my understanding of your requirement is incorrect. 

You want to keep the orginal part drawing as it is.

You want to make a new assembly  using that part, but utilize the drawing of the part to be able to skip the time it takes to create the views. in the assembly drawing.

I don't think you can directly do that. 

@tbraxton suggestion of creating and using a drawing template is the closest you can get I think.

You can copy and paste drawing notes and other non-model details from one drawing to another to save the time of creation of specific notes.

It is not possible to do what you want directly. If this is something that you might need to do more than once, then you should consider creating a drawing template. A drawing template can define views such that when you create a new drawing all of the views are populated in the drawing automatically. You can also include notes, formats and symbols in a drawing template. Be advised that you must have the views saved in a model matching that in the template for automatic creation. A sheet from a template is shown in the picture below with orthographic views included on the sheet along with a symbol and format. All of these views will be created when using the template to create a new drawing.

About Drawing Templates

If you are only needing to do this once, then the options @StephenW has provided may solve the immediate requirements. You should note however that those options would require that you maintain the part and assembly drawings which is not ideal.

This is an example of an assembly drawing that includes a sheet for the assembly and another sheet for one of the components (part). There are two drawing models.
