Decal Surf Background Color Won't Stick

WF4, M080

I have a model with 2 surfaces with decals applied to show labels.  Each decal surface, however, has a different background color than the model, which is simply the default grey.  If I go into the colors & appearance editor, select surface and then from model and select the decal surfaces, I can adjust the back ground to match the model.

However, once I save the model, when I reopen it the colors revert to the old, non matching colors.  That is, it will do so if I close Pro/E, if I save the model & erase it from session without closing Pro/E, the changes stick. Restart Pro/E and they are lost.  It's maddening to say the least.

How do I make these changes stick?

I had a couple of responses to set 'save_texture_with_model' to yes, but
that's already set in our config.sup.

Another was that perhaps the colors were bleeding through. I doubt it
since I can update the model to display how I want, it just doesn't
stick. Next time I open it, it'll be the old colors.

The problem is the surface color around the decal. The decal is fine,
it's the color of the surface around the decal. It's purple, I want it
to be grey. I can make it gray but tomorrow when I re-start Pro/E,
it'll be purple again.

Have you tried clearing the colour from those two surfaces, so they are
default grey instead of purple and then apply the decal again?
