Design Study

All,

I have an assembly i would like to run a study on. What i would like to know is what loaddo i need to apply to the area shaded in red to reduce the diamater by .003". I guess i would like to know how one would go about doing this. Optimization study, fesability study, ?

Thanks

Brad

Hi Brad,

You can do this simply by scaling the results of a test load.

Since Mechanica's basic analysis is linear elastic, the displacement
caused by a 10 lbf load will be twice the displacement caused by a 5 lbf
load. Therefore, if you run an analysis with a 'unit' load (1, 5, 10,
1000 or whatever) and measure the displacement, you can easily calculate
the load required for any other displacement.

I'd expect your part to deflect by different amounts at the top and
bottom of the shaded diameter, but that's for you to determine which is
the important bit...

HTH,
Jonathan
