FMX Shape Surface Selection grayed out

I am using PTC Creo 3.0 M040. I have the Flexible Modeling extension. I have a file sent to me by the manufacturer that is exported as a STP file from SolidWorks. I need to cut holes through this model. On the Flexible Modeling tab, all of the "Shape Surface Selection" options are grayed out. Why? Thanks in advance.

Heather,

Imported file seems to be a surface model not the solid one.
