How to have Cable with different SPOOLs in a Harness

How to have Cable with different Spools in a Harness?

See Image attached. Green and Yellow need different spools. Spool option to change is grayed out for YELLOW. If changed for GREEN, Yellow also changes.

THANKS!

Hi,

I believe that you just first create the spools you need. Do you have the necessary spools available? Each color cable must have it's own spool.

If you route manually then you can select the spool to be used when you route from - to...

Cabling is much easier if you use Schematics to create the logical connections. The two spools are actual different components with thickness and color. The quantity is variable...

Hi, This is exactly I am stuck at. I cannot change my spool for the other two cables that follow the first one. I can change for the first, but it changes for all in the cables done in that Harness.

Hi,

You probably have a different version of creo? Attached is the simple test assembly (Creo9) I used. Two Spools and two cables. I can't actually change the spool for any cable after it is routed. But if I first delete the cable then I can make a new cable with a different spool. In the sample below I deleted Cable1 and routed it again with a black spool... the new name is Cable3 (in component coax_test.prt).

If you use a logical file and you made changes to spools or connections then you have to use the "Update"-menu option until it shows that nothing to update anymore. I have noticed that many times I have to delete cables and spools before the "update" says that everything is OK (update-regen-delete-update-regen-delete).

Exactly! That is my frustration.

I cannot edit once i route and ok. I have to redo the whole routing sequence. This not a big deal to redo the routing but would be good to have edit option to change spool once routed.

Spool and Route Type are greyed out

I see. That can be frustrating especially if you route manually. I do even the simplest cables with schematic. With logical files and networks you can quite easily delete your routes and regenerate the cables with new spools or connectors. Cable names and connector refdes values always stay to the ones you have specified on your schematic.

I have not got that far yet. Learning as it comes! How you do route with schematic? A simple example or exercise from PTC would be helpful.

Seriously I am ok with manual routing now but if some other easier process there will be great to capture on after this delivery.
