How to retain entity characteristics?

In my base model I can change the color of the geometry I am working on.

When I move this model into another model using Merge Inheritance or Copy Geom it loses it's color characteristics.

I know there must be a way to retain the color settings from the imported model.

What settings would I have to modify in order to keep colors from the base model?

Hi, Paul. I have been using data sharing commands (copy geom, merge/inherit) and the base model always retain its original colors. I think this is the default (retaining color) and I am not aware of any setting required for  this characteristic. The only thing required would be to regen the model after each color change in the base model. Hope this helps.

It is good to know that retaining model colors is possible.

I did some more testing to see if this doesn't work because of technique.

I was surprised to see that you can at least bring over Copy Geom quilts as their original color.  This we most certainly will take advantage of.

However; it appears that you can't bring in a Merge Inheritance model with it's original color scheme.  Perhaps this is more of an issue of whether the model you are bringing in is a solid as that is the way we are using the Merge Inheritance.

I pretty much established that you couldn't retain colors when I worked within Pro Mold as everything I tried in retaining the color settings seemed to fail.  We aren't using the Pro Mold interface as much anymore so that in itself wouldn't pose a road block.

Can you bring in a Solid Inheritance model merge and still retain the base model's color scheme?

I never use solid in merge/inheritance, only surface/quilt. I did a simple model just now and I noticed that only those assigned to surfaces (not entire part) were brought in to my model. I guess the workaround for this issue would be assigning color to surfaces instead of relying on part color.
