Importing STEP files

Importing STEP files

I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience importing STEP file into ProE. What I am trying to do is have one of our PCB designers send me a board with all of the electrical components populated. This will allow me to check for interference between the board and any mechanical components. I am trying to import the items as a single part. When I do this all of the items assemble to a single point. Is there a way to have them assemble in the proper locations?

Thanks

-Alex

I would like to add my request for this information also.

What I currently do is "give in" to Pro/E and import as an assembly
(they will be located correctly when done that way - at least they have
for me so far) and then create a family table part by taking one
component of the bunch and copying the geometry of the others into that
one part so that I have a Franken-part/assembly. Tedious and never
resembling anything like a "Zen" experience 😄

Try this.

Import the step file into an assembly. Once it is imported. IGES it out
as a flat file then import it into a part file. I used this just
yesterday on some downloaded connector files from Samtec.
