Creo 2 M120
When I first open any model, if I spin without selecting on the model (ie - MMB on an "empty" part of the screen), my model slides sideways right off the screen. It's as if the spin center is a couple of hundred feet behind my head. Same occurs if I try using my Space Navigator.
Once I MMB on the model, it spins like it should (around my selection point) and then the Space Navigator spins appropriately too.
I have my spin center turned off, so it shouldn't be spinning around it off screen somewhere.
It's a fairly minor annoyance, but if I can fix it I'd like to.
Any ideas?
Click on the model. It's the only way to be sure -or- toggle the spin-center icon so it's selected.
Go to Named views ->Reorient ->Preferences ->Point or vertex (or maybe Screen center) and select the desired spin center.
I created a mapkey for this, so I just have to press F4 to define a new spin center:
mapkey $F4 @MAPKEY_NAMEDefine Spin Center.;~ Command `ProCmdEnvSpinCntr` 1;\
mapkey(continued) ~ Command `ProCmdViewOrient` ;~ Select `orient` `SetupOptions` 1 `setup`;\
mapkey(continued) ~ Select `orient` `spincentPH.SpinCentRadio` 1 `PointVertex`;\
mapkey(continued) @MANUAL_PAUSESelect Spin Center;~ Activate `orient` `OkPB`;

It's not the spin center settings or even that I'm not clicking the MMB on the part. Parts behave differently when first opened than they do after the first spin where the MMB actually lands on the part.
I can spin with MMB off the part with predictable results once the part is open and spun once. but that first spin sends the part out in space if I miss with the MMB, or more likely, try to spin with my Space Navigator.
Probably not solvable, I just wondered if anyone else has seen it or, even better, had a solution.
I've definitely seen it. After you posted, I tried it to make sure it was actually true and it did exactly as you described. I never realized it was consistent. I had been mildly frustrated by it but now I'll notice it more because I realize it's not just something I was doing. Thanks Doug!!!
Glad to be of service.
I have seen this problem with imported models. It turned out there were coordinate systems hanging out in space for an upper assembly. Try turning on your coordinates to see if you have any contributing to the spin center. Probably not if they are your models.
This is in all models, not just imports.
