Perimeter of sheetmetal

how to calculate a perimeter of shm part (any shape)? Is it possible in Creo? In solidworks there are 2 parameters created: Cutting Length-Outer and Cutting Length-Inner. I'm looking for something simmilar in Creo. http://help.solidworks.com/2012/English/SolidWorks/sldworks/c_Sheet_Metal_Properties.htm

Here is a quick video that we created during a training class.  Thanks to Katie Hernandez of TriStar for recording and sharing it.

Basic Steps:

  1. Create flat  (Unbend All)
  2. Create Cross Section through the sheetmetal thickness.
  3. Create a Curve from the Cross Section.
  4. Measure the length of the curve.

We have a relation added into our sheetmetal models to get an approximate perimeter of the part (good enough for a rough cut length calculation) without additional features.

PERIMETER=(PRO_MP_AREA - (2*(PRO_MP_VOLUME/SMT_THICKNESS)))/SMT_THICKNESS

If you are concerned about precision, then this isn't the method for you. Use the cross section method posted by Marc DeBower .
