Proe Memory leaks

Proe Memory leaks

I work in large assemblies, 3 to 6 gigs in memory. When I go to work on a small subassembly or part I hit erase not displayed but memeory is still used even though no parts are in session. Xtop shows 2.5 gigs memory used. I have to exit Proe to get memory back. Once memory approaches the 3.5 gig range things go real slow. Is there a utility out there to flush memory that is safe?

I have called PTC on this issue before. In short there is no solution.
PTC will tell you that Pro/E reserves that memory from the OS and then
when it loads the next part it uses the memory it reserved from the
previous part. Eventually Pro/E will release the memory but it may take
a very long time. If you leave Pro/E running over night you will see
when you come back in the next day that the memory has been reduced.

That being said there is a SPR for this issue: SPR 864852 "When erasing
a model from the Pro/-ENGINEER session the memory is not correctly
reused for successive model" (internal PTC SPR not viewable). If you
open and close a part in succession you will see in fact that Pro/E is
grabbing more and more memory even if it is the same part.

I don't know if a date has been set to resolve this issue.

Don't know how safe it is or if it will work with today's versions of
Windows or WF, but back around 2000/2001; some users were using a
freeware program called WINRAM-BOOSTER to defrag memory.
