When exporting a .STEP file of a large assembly in WF 4.0, do hidden parts get left out of the .STEP file? I guess the question should be: What is the best way to leave parts out of a large assembly when creating a .STEP file? Hidden, Simplified Reps, Suppressed?
Not sure about hidden parts, but I think they don't get exported.
Maybe hidden parts get exported into a hidden space of the STEP file? Well, if the STEP format supports anything like that.
I know for sure that only parts included in a simplified rep get exported, the excluded ones don't.
Well I found out that hiding parts doesn't work. I'm going with the simplified rep method now.
Cool, so no hidden space in STEP file when you import it back to Pro/E.
EDIT: I am wondering if it works the same way on part level as well.
Well, I don't know how the STEP file looked using the hidden parts method. I seen that it processed all of the parts (even the hidden ones) when exporting the STEP file but when opening the STEP file it crashes my computer everytime. This is part of the reason why I wanted to exclude parts. The other reason is because I'm sending it to a metal fabrication vendor and I want to leave out anything thats unrelated (such as piping, electrical, fasteners, etc.).
The last assembly export I did with Step in Creo 2.0, it omitted the hidden parts.
Maybe they enhanced the STEP exporting feature in Creo, I'm still stuck with Wildfire 4.0 . However, I did find out that simplified reps are the way to go when excluding parts from a STEP assembly (in WF4.0 anyway). Thanks!
