Searchable PDFs

Currently we plot drawings to file using the Generic PostScript plotter. An external tool (GhostScript) converts the .ps file to .pdf.

I've seen references to searchable PDFs, but haven't figured out how to get PostScript plot to use text instead of pen strokes. The "Interface" user manual says this is possible, but it looks like you need to have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed and have use Pro/Es SaveAs PDF functionality.

Is there any way to do this without having Acrobat? If Pro/E goes needs Acrobat, then surely, there's a way to do this in a PostScript file.

Using Wildfire 4.

Andrew,

As of Wildfire 3.0 you can create PDF files via the File->Save_a_Copy command and select PDF as the output file type. If you use this method (for drawings)you have the option to use either stroked text or text via True Type fonts (see the second tab, "Content",in the dialog). If you select True Type fonts, you will automatically get searchable text. If you select stroked text you may also select to have that text searchable. I hope this helps.

Asa
