Seperating a mirror part

I have a part that I modeled and I need to make a mirror of the part. I can mirror it but don't know how to make into two parts.

In the part you want to mirror, go to File -> Mirror Part. This will
prompt you through creating a part that's a mirror of the one you're
working on.

Doug I think you get what I am trying to do. The only place I see "mirror" is when I highlight the model it is listed in the edit menu. I mirror the part off the datum I created. This put the mirrored part in the same part model. I am basically building a clamshell type of assembly. All I want is a left hand and a right hand model.

Don't highlight or select anything. Make sure you're in part mode, not
assy mode (although you can mirror an assy the same way in assy mode).
Go to the File menu, not Edit, and look for 'Mirror Part', maybe 8 or 10
items down the menu (in WF4 anyway). Pro/E should them prompt you
through making a new part that's a mirror of the existing.

Terry,

Mirror part is unavailable from part mode using WF2.

Create an assembly. Add the part to this assembly that you need to mirror.
Add the datum plane to mirror about.

Use Insert / component / create /
Place a bullet into thepart and mirror options.
Hit OK.

Now select the model you need to mirror and then select the datum plane to mirror about.

Ok, I went home yesterday and worked on the model in question. For the record, I wish I had WF 4 as it seems like it is has some nice new things like this one.

I took this from Dave's suggestion.

This worked good but after I did this I created more features on the first model and they copied over to the mirrored part. How do I make the two models independent?
