Sheetmetal Views

Simple question, hopefully simple answer.

Is there any way to display sheetmetal views of both bent and unbent
utilizing the same model? I know I can save my model under another name
then just unbend it and view that in the drawing. I'm hoping there's a
feature I can't find utilizing one model.

Create a flat pattern and then add that feature to a family table in the bent part. You will now technically have the same part with an instance that can be added to the drawing and it is parametric unlike the example that you gave.

Tip within a tip:

If you create a “flat state” it will make the table and add the instance for you. Same result as flat pattern just quicker.

Hi Paul,

The creation of a flat pattern is essentially serving this function.

Pro/E automatically creates a family table with the "unbend" feature

as the last feature in the model tree. The flat instance has the unbend

turned on and the formed instance has it turned off.

Add both instances to the drawing, but be careful as to

whether or not you want to add a flat pattern to a drawing.

Flat patterns are for friends only. You can't inspect them, and

outside sheet metal shops often blame their mistakes on them.

That means you could be forced to pay for parts that don't fit.

Best regards,

Frederick Burke

The best answer for me is from Joe Thelen, basically everyone pointed
out to use Family Tables, but me, using Pro-E since v18 never used
Family Tables and just starting to use the Sheetmetal features had no
clue how to do this properly. Thanks to all.

Below are basically the steps I followed:

Family table, create your flat pattern (not an unbend, but a flat
pattern, keeps it as last feature automatically):

Edit > Setup > Flat state > Create

(dialog box opens to enter instance name)

Select either "fully formed" or "fully flat" (fully formed suppresses
the flat in the model tree)

Continue as if creating an unbend

Select then the dropdown:

Tools > Family table

Viola! You have a flat pattern instance.

In the drawing (WF5):

Annotate Tab > Drawing models icon > Add model

Select (or type in) part number (main not instance)

Select the instance you wish to use on drawing

Place view on drawing (after this in the same menu select "set model"
and select the either part number to work with)
