I remember the days when you tell it what to shell.
I think since WF it shells the whole part and you subtract (remove surfaces)
If I extrude, then shell, then add another extrude, then shell...it picks the whole part.
I try to mess with it to no avail.
hopefully I am clear on this.
Anyone?

But, you could create the subsequent features as closed/capped surfaces, offset it, solidify the parent then use the offset to solidifly as a cut. You can do that all day long.
I have yet to post a summary on this. So far - a few responses like yours with the exception of the offset and solidify options, which I have used. This may be too much.
I guess it it be nice to shell more than once. This would be quicker than a offset edge chain option.
There are reasons why it would not work well....in considering molding, etc.
