Summation of weight parameter in repeat region not taking into account qty of bom item

I am using Creo Parametric Release 8.0 and Datecode8.0.11.0

I am trying to add a weight per piece column into our bill of material in the repeat region on our drawing format. I successfully added a column that pulls from our weight parameter in the part but when I add the summation to the repeat region for total weight it only adds the weight per piece once and is not taking into account the quantity of the part.

I also would like to know if it is possible to put this summation into a different table in the drawing that is not part of the repeat region. I tried adding the summation string to another table in the drawing but it does not work like intended. I can type the parameter into the drawing manually and it adds it but not permanently in the format.

Lastly would like to make it so that the balloons are always set to "QTY SPLIT" when making a new drawing instead of having to change it.

What is the difference between drawing format and template?

Is the right column the default based off of the .dtl file and if it is blank does that mean that there is no line for this in the .dtl and it'll just take the creo default?

Lastly, when I open one of our drawing formats there are way less options in the drawing detial options than there is if I open a completed drawing with model. Is this normal?

A drawing format is created separately from a drawing template. Look at this menu from a File-New.

Think of it this way. The format is if you pulled a new drawing sheet out of the file cabinet to create a new drawing on back in the pen and pencil days. These are usually printed with things like company logos, etc. in the lower right for the title block with places for signatures and maybe some default tolerances. A template uses the format and tom it you can add notes, parameters, views, etc. The format will contain references to the parameters, but they will be symbolic. In the drawing template, they pull in the actual parameters. When you select New Drawing and choose a template, Creo copies your company template into the new drawing file and brings in the format with it.

The blank column means there is no default value, other than what PTC has hard coded into the system as some variable. The values shown in the Value column are what have been applied from your Drawing Setup (*.dtl) file.

Some users may have created their own setup file and loaded it into their drawings to make things the way they like it. Look mat different drawings and maybe print out some of the files and compare them to see what is different between your templates and the production drawings. Once you set the company defaults set, suggest to the users that they no longer apply their own setup files so everyone is creating drawings with the same setup information.

Has your company been using Creo for a while or new to it?

Are there existing standards that are used?

Thanks Ben,

Our company has been using creo since it was pro e/wildfire. We have been owned by multiple companies over the years and things have been updated many times between these companies and inch and metric it's a bit of a mess and hard to follow at times. I understand the basics and most of the workings of configs/formats/dtl but definitely not entirely. The person who was in charge of all of this passed away and I am trying to learn how it all works. This started with me trying to update our formats to show weight/item and total weight of assembly to our formats as well as changing the default balloon to qty split circle. I have succeeded in most of my tasks thanks to peoples help here but it's just been a bit confusing figuring out where the config points to for all of these things and trying to work through some really odd things happening which I can probably attribute to so many different peoples hands being involved.

The qty split circle part has just been confusing because I am finding weird things happening with our dtl files and formats. An example is when I am in the format of our C drawing it says the text height is 3 and is MASSIVE when I make a note. When I put a model into the drawing it still says height 3 but the note is way smaller.

Kyle,

I feel your pain. I have been with 3 companies using Pro/E/Wildfire/Creo since Pro/E 2000. That first company we were switching from Unigraphics after 18 years. The second and third companies I came into after the previous admin had left and very few notes left behind. Also working with WIndchill at all 3 companies since PDMLink V7, now on 12.0.2 and 13.0.2. I have 2 systems with slightly different configurations to juggle. The 13,0,2 system was set up by me back in 2019, so I understand it better, but still forget things.

BOM balloons are a special case of Creo symbols. I have found that just selecting the properties on a drawing and you get weird sizes, like you are seeing. What I do is go into the Define Symbol menu and redefine the symbol to get the actual text height used in symbols.
