Using Curved Surfaces as a Draft Hinge

RF_6255476_2-1749130839895.png

I thought I could use any connected surface as a draft hinge in previous versions of CREO (2.0 - 4.0). I am currently using 11.0 and tried to use a curved surface as a draft hinge and it could not be selected. Am I mis-remembering or is this possible? Model above is representative only. Yellow is the surfaces to be drafted and green is the surface I wish to use  as a draft hinge.

It is permitted to use a quilt (curved or flat) as a draft hinge but there are limitations in the context of the draft feature when selecting a quilt for use as a hinge. It appears that you have a spherical surface that you want to use as the draft hinge. Creo has limitations on some axisymmetric geometry due the fact that all circles are split in half. I suspect that is an issue with the quilt you want to use in this case. If you were to extrude the same radius it will likely be usable as a draft hinge but when revolved, it will probably not work.

In your example the method I would use to create the draft feature would be to explicitly select the intersection of the drafted surfaces with the hinge surface (quilt). I think you will find for this geometry that this will be a much more robust approach. Note the use of intent references in the draft feature which will make pattern instances more robust with model edits.

Creo 7 model enclosed for reference.

Thanks for replying,

The screenshot was just something i threw together for representation. I wanted to highlight the use case of a series of draft surfaces that could in theory use the same surface as a draft hinge, allowing for a single draft feature in place of multiple set utilising their individual intersecting chains.

Here is an example of using a curved quilt as a draft hinge reference. Note that the quilt is not axisymmetric as in your scenario.

In the Creo 7 model I posted, I only created 1 draft feature and then patterned it within a group. This is why I noted that the use of intent references for the hinge and draft surfaces to make the pattern robust when model changes are implemented.
