asm / subasm help!

Hi i'm real new to Pro-E and i'm struggling big time, i have created an Asm of an electrical cubicle(call it asm1)which consists of an Asm for the body, asm for the top door, asm = middle door and asm = bottom door this model is fine. I now want to copy this and re-name it to(asm2)and delete the bottom door asm then create a new bottom door asm. When i do this i notice the first assembly(asm1)now has the new bottom door why is this? can you copy asm's and delete/ add new asm's without altering the original that was copied? hope this makes sense as im going mad here many thanks

Are you sure that you have the new assembly open. When you use save as in Pro-E the new assembly is not open, unlike other software on MSWindows platforms. The procedure on saveas is: select saveas, new popup window, select all of the items that you want new names for, i.e. new bottom door for the new assembly. Select O.K. and now select open under the file menu. Select your new assembly name from the open command. Now you should have displayed the new assembly with new bottom door. Eric

This has bitten me on the behind on more than one occasion. In most other cad programs, "SAVEAS" changes the current file to the newly saved one. Pro-E does not. You have to remember that or you will change the base model you had opne when you did the copy. Frustrating.

prefered method would be to make a family table or simplified rep. if you want to continue using your method. create a folder on your computer. "back up" the original asm to this folder. close and erase everything from memory. set working directory to the new folder and open the asm. rename it and make your changes. "back-up" the new asm to the original folder. you now have 2 top level assemblies with different names and different parts.

thanks guys
