backward compatability

To All,

Is it possible to open an object, part and or drawing, created in Pro/E Windfire 5.0 in version 4.0. And if so how?

Thanks for the help,

Charlie

Charlie,

You need to install the CGRI which can be found at;

Sorry,
as far as I know there is no possibility to open a WF5 file using WF4. The
only time I remember that such backward compatibility was offered by PTC was
for Pro/Engineer 19 vs. Pro/E 18.

Hi Charlie

there are options and it is call GCRI see attached

cheers

Dave

Forgot to mention it does include WF5.0

GCRI has historically supported backward compatibility for the previous
two releases, i.e. WF 5 files would be able to be opened in WF 4 or WF
3.

All,

I know that I have posted this video before but I think it is pertinent
to post again. This shows opening WF5.0 content in WF4.0. More content
on this subject can be found under the free downloads section on ptc.com

Rosemary,

GCRI supports backwards compatibility for parts and assemblies but not
drawings correct?

Why are drawings not supported?

Hi All,

If my memory serves me correct.
GCRI works if you do not want to go back to the higher rev of Pro/E.
You can bring Wildfire 5 into Wildfire 4 But when you save at the Wildfire 4
level
you lose the parametric features that were created in Wildfire 5 when you try to
open
it back up in Wildfire 5.

Can anyone verify that moving back and forth between new and old
versions is not possible?  I understood that it was capable of moving
back and forth between versions.

I can foresee situations where we might utilize CGRI, but not being able
to go back and forth would seriously limit its usefulness.  I'd like to
know if that's true before I rely on it.

The GCRI has the craft functionality to take features back to the newer
release. This enables you to transfer features added to the model in
WF3/WF4 as parametric features to the WF5 model.
So comlete parametric models can be sent back and forth between major
versions.
