wf5 drawings

Hi all.

First, allow me to wish you a happy Friday. This will provide me with some
level of pardon for which I am about to say.

I have not yet voiced my thoughts on the "WF5 Drawing Module" into the
kettle of User Opinion. I sincerely hope that PTC is listening to us here.

I am hearing / reading that the ribbon remains in Creo. Great. But who
thought it was a good idea to dis-allow moving dimensions when in the
"layout" tab? I am laying out a drawing to make everything fit. Adjusting
partial view splines and moving dimensions around is annoying. Sorry for
beating a dead horse, but it really does suck. I hope it gets better, but
that won't help me for quite some time; I will be on WF5 for a long time.

And the layer controls interface is quite confusing. I don't understand the
logic behind WHERE things are located. (if you don't already know, try to
find "save layer status") And I am confused with setting the Drawing layers
different from specific View layers and it SEEMS that the "ignore model
layer status" check box does not work. Once I figure it out, I am sure I
won't so easily complain. But it is not Easy To Use. I think it sucks.

PTC: The specific complaints I have cited above are only samples of the
frustration that I (we) have with this new UI. Please don't just improve
it. Re Write it to work according to your self-proclaimed goal "Ease Of
Use".

I can imagine the ribbon to work well and be Easy To Use. But it isn't
right now. It is so incredibly frustrating that I took this time out of my
hectic schedule to complain.

If anyone has an - that I should forward this to, or
some other influential avenue to lodge this complaint, please, hook me up.

Thanks for listening. Happy impending weekend.

-Nate

From what I've seen, things like this will get more attention from PTC in the PlanetPTC forum.....

Yep, it stinks. I was just at a Creo 2.0 overview yesterday and they
did state that you no longer need to be on the right tab to select
things. I'm not sure if that's true in Creo 1.0 or just in 2.0.
Someone actively using Creo 1.0 will have to chime in there.

I think that the ribbon in WF5 was a bit of a 'beta' implementation.
Maybe they did not intend it that way, but that's how it feels.

Bottom line - it looks like they heard those who complained and have
made improvements.

Second bottom line - You'll get used to it and it will **** less over
time. 😛

Welcome to our world.
As far as the frustrating ribbon issue involving the layout, table and annotate tabs, I set my mouse (Logitech 5 button MX600) scroll wheel functions to toggle between those three tabs.

push left = Layout
push down = Table
push right = Annotate.

Now, at least, I don't have to move my cursor to the upper left part of my screen while navigating around a drawing. I'm just indexing the scroll wheel left, down or right.

Creo 1 lets you bounce around from view to table to annotation, etc...., though you do need to use the Alt key for table selections

Along that same line, we've created a mapkey named "TT" that get us to the
Annotate tab, since that's where we spend most of our time.

Then, no matter where you are, you at least get to that tab.

Still not ideal, but it does enable us to move around WITHOUT needing to
go up to the ribbon to activate that all the time.

Like Doug said, I personally think that it's sad but true, "It does suck
less the more that you use it". I've gotten used to it, and it's not as
bad as I remember it being when we first started, but I'm not convinced
that our through put has gone up either.
