I was looking though the knowledge base today for information on the Creo Exit Logger. I found the article below which says as of Creo 2-m150 & Creo 3-m030 the default logging mechanism is the new Performance Advisor, which uses the quality_agent. You can switch it back to local_server if you want. The second link is an introduction to the Performance Advisor.
The Quality Agent, to remind you is a program that phones home to PTC with information about your computer. Obviously this will not work on a closed network. So you will either have to manually disable the install of the Quality Agent, or set it to local server.
On an open network, I would think that most of our security folks would not look kindly on a program that automatically sends data to PTC. The configuration of how that data is sent is detailed in this article.
I don't want to imply that there is anything nefarious about the data PTC is collecting. It's just that any automated program that collects data, and can then send that data outside your network has the potential to be hijacked for other purposes.
I'm sure it not just the defense folks that are concerned about this. Many other companies will have some misgivings about having such a program on their computers. All types of companies have seen hundreds of thousands attempts to gain access to their networks every week by state sponsered criminals doing industrial espionage. This is not a topic to take lightly.
