WF4 M160

Anyone know when WF4 M160 comes out?

The product calendar says aug.27 (and before that it said aug.20) but it
is still not there.

It appears that WF4 M160 for XP/Vista is currently only available as
Install from Web.
The direct downloads still show M150.
The UNIX M160 CD's can be downloaded however.

Hopefully the WF4 M160 XP/Vista downloads get available soon ...

I actually downloaded M160 yesterday. When I went to install it this morning there was a problem with Disk 5. So I went back to re-download it and it was off the site. M150 was the latest. So I had Disk 1-4 with a bad Disk 5.

I just checked and M160 is back up.

I redownloaded M160 yesterday andinstalled it today. When I started it I received an error message saying " C:\...\wf4\i486_nt\obj\xtop.exe is not a valid Win32 application". So it looks like we need to say away from it for now.

I downloadedWF4 M160 yesterdayinstalled it today. It started up ok but I havent opened any files with it yet.

@Steve did you accidentally install the 64 bit versionon a32bitO/S, that may explain the error message you got.

With all the mails about downloading WF4 M160, perhaps a small warning
is in it's place.

We stumbled upon a bug where WF4 M160 is not able to open some old parts
with imported neutral geometry.
All three parts were created in ProE R20 (attached one example). Earlier
builds of WF4 did not have this problem.

We found the bug because one of our major assemblies could no longer be
retrieved.
The bug is reproducable with Windows 32bit and 64bit and also without a
config.pro.

So you might experience this problem as well if you have old parts with
imported neutral geometry.

The workaround is to open the part in an earlier build of WF4 (WF2 also
works) and save it.
After that WF4 M160 is able to open it.

Olaf suggested redownloading and reunzipping. This time I also used a different zip program and everything installed just fine.

Now for checking the older models issue...

Well, is this really a bug or PTC enforcing a long standing statement that they only support the opening of files from the prior 2 releases.
In the case of WF4, that would be WF2 and WF3. Anything older that opens is lucky.

First of, this issue has only been found with these 3 specific parts
with imported neutral geometry.
I've checked WF4 M160 with my collection of ProE parts down to R7and it
could open all files without a problem.

And according to PTC this is not a bug 😉

I got my files sent back to me fixed with the following statement:
Please find attached the three parts, fixed up so they will retrieve.
The issue here is a tightening of a check for potential corruption, to
avoid possibly crashing while attempting to retrieve invalid parts. In
this case, there is no serious issue, but in most cases where this check
would be hit, there would be.

So bottomline, when upgrading to WF4 M160 my advice would be to keep an
older WF4 build code at hand to fix parts like this.
Otherwise you will need to send them to PTC for fixing.

Off course, I will escalate this call, because I think we need at least
to be able to turn this "feature" off with a config option.
I don't know how many more older files with imported geometry ProE is
going to refuse to open.

For now, I'm going to use M160 at some places and see how many more
files ProE does not open for the sake of being on the safe side ......
