Hi,
How would you use an Emergency ID in a disaster recovery scenario? For example, let's say you lose access to the server where Kepware was installed but have backups of the project available and have re-installed it on another server... seeking clarification on how you would handle the Emergency ID and Activation ID in this scenario.
Also, is the Emergency ID available for re-use an unlimited number of times so long as it is reset and the original Activation ID is still active?
Hi,
Appreciate the query.
In a disaster recovery scenario, you restore operations by installing Kepware on the new server and importing your project backup, then opening the License Utility to activate your Emergency ID, which grants full functionality for 7 days. Since your permanent Activation ID remains locked to the original failed server, you must contact Kepware Technical Support to request a manual reset of that ID so it can be applied permanently to the new machine.
Regarding re-use, the Emergency ID is not unlimited; it is a one-time use tool that must be reset/return or deactivated via the License Utility once the permanent license is in place to make it available for future emergencies. If a server crash prevents you from returning it, you will need to ask Support to reset the Emergency ID as well to ensure it is ready for the next incident.
Follow Kepware Licensing Page for more details.
