1D Heat equation

Has someone made a file solving the 1D heat equation with imposed and time varying heat flux on both sides. I want to know what length of stainless steel induces a 45 s delay between the end of the heat flux on the left hand side and the peak of temperature on the right hand side which is cooled by natural convection.

What I don't understand is that the right side is hot and cold at the same time. Is it an undiscovered physical phenomenon that something can be hot and cold at the same instant ?
