Automatic Paragraph, Equation and Figure Numbering

Are there plans for Mathcad Prime to include automatic paragraph, equation and figure numbering?

It's not ideal, but MP10's Advanced Controls allow a rudimentary form of entity numbering.

The topic has been broached several times since at least Mathcad 11.

Nice approach!

BTW, have you ever tried to create or copy a button in/into a text region?

Just a moment, ....

Yes.  😁

It's interesting how you can paste certain things into placeholders, etc, but not insert/type them directly (yes, 3-place range operator, I'm looking at you!).

That's crazy!

I asked because I noticed that we cannot create an advanced control in a text region but we happily can create a Text Box outside and copy it there.
When I tried the same with a button I ended up with a button stretched infinitely horizontally - impossible to resize.

After seeing you reply here I tried again and it worked flawless. Not sure what was going on last time.

EDIT

Ahhhhh!!

I was able to reproduce the error!

Create a button outside of the text region and before you copy it, resize it horizontally. Then copy it to the text region.

As you can see in the picture, copying a button (test2) which was not resized experiences not this problem, but it looks like we can't resize controls once they are inserted in a text region.
This all smells like a very bad bug.

BTW, don't try to copy a button which was scaled vertically (test3). You have been warned!

We seem to have swapped places today, Werner.  Usually, I try something and it doesn't work, and then you post it working.

Hmm.  Strong with the quantum weirdness Prime today is.

Could reproduce the effect. See my edited post above.

Regular service has been resumed. I uttered the magic incantation, "We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical", and it made no difference.  The Universe appears to be ticking along as usual, and Prime did not explode.   Although, my Echo Show 8 did reboot and go through a clean setup process, so perhaps the effect is subtle.

As you say, resizing can't be done within the Text Box, but cutting a control out, resizing it, and pasting it back in works.

So I take it that you could not reproduce the effect of controls in infinite size ...

Back to the machine and testing ....

Its even more confusing...

My Prime installation is in German by default. Because I like it to be in its native language English I have an icon on my desktop for the program to be called with the parameter "/culture:en-US" (who on heavens earth thought that this would be a good idea and better than a language option in the menu and saving the options set in a configuration file?)

When I make the test starting Prime 10 using this icon, all is OK and also resized controls would copy as they are expected.

When I double click a file or when I open it from a posting in this forum, the parameter "/culture:en-US" is  not applied because I would have to fiddle around in the registry to make that work.
Its 'just' this German version which hast problems copying resized controls into a text region!

How crazy can it be ...

Solution: Always have an instance of Prime with culture:en set open in the background. That way any file double clicked or opened from the net will open in the English program variant.

Drawback: Try to open a file instead in Prime 9 because someone asking for help is not using the current version would still open it in Prime 10 (most of the time without me noticing it until its already too late)  😞

"native language English" ... the parameter "/culture:en-US"?

As a Brit, I would have expected the "native language English" to be "/culture:en-GB".  😉

'Native' in the sense of the language of the makers of the program (not the originator, as that would be Russian).

Guess we suffer from a similar problem as I, too, would prefer "/culture:de-AT" over "/culture:de-DE".  😉

I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said, "The British and Americans are two people separated by a common language."
And it was the Austrian cabaret artist Karl Farkas (1893 - 1997, world-famous throughout Austria 😉 ) who paraphrased this as "Nothing separates the Austrians from the Germans as much as the common language". This is sometimes attributed to Karl Kraus, but this seems to be a mistake, as the quote is not to be found in the entire issue of "Die Fackel" and its style would not suit Kraus, who had great respect and deep love for language.

If you again can't find sleep tonight, you may try starting Prime with the argument "/culture:de-DE" and see if copy and paste of resized controls to a text region works OK or fails.

EDIT: I just tried doing so (even if I would not need that argument to get the German version) and copy & paste again failed.
I also tried French and Russian and c&p failed again. Only in the English version it works as it should.
I don't see any logical reason why this should have anything to do with the language setting, but many things are not logical...

I also have to admit that I lied. The extent of the copied elements is not infinite.
Copying a button that was (also) slightly enlarged in the vertical direction results in a worksheet of 'only' 1160 pages.

Werner_E_0-1728329566716.png

On my last try using a fresh new worksheet it expanded to 1289 pages 🙂
Seems to depend of margin size, maybe also grid size selected.

Snap! (in Russian)

That's with the default template, which has a grid so wide that I need to organise an expedition to go from one cell to the next and margins that make the Siberian Steppe seem small.

Reassuring, then it is a bug in the software after all and not an installation error on my part.

Thanks for trying.

No worries. Always a pleasure to assist with a bug hunt.

Provided I’m the one doing the hunting …
