I think this is a bug. Its present in Mathcad and in Prime alike.
It seems to work with any function - built-in or user defined.
Mathcad should not allow the first definition.
Solved! Go to Solution.
sin(a):=100 is a user function with formal argument a and with name sin.
I think e:=4 is a bug too in this case.

OmG, of course you are right and its not a bug. Not sure where I had my mind - its late and it was a long day 😞

sin is one built-in function, e is one built-in constant

OK, I see what you meant.
alpha is a built-in constant

Yes, but only in Prime. Not in Mathcad.

Prime is Mathcad too

It was a short day for me - not 24 but 22 hrs - one fly from Paris to Moscow.
Silly question ... Am I the only one to think that it would be a nice feature if Mathcad could display warnings when redefining stuff ? (especially build-in functions/constants/units, but not only). Ideally, with a "shut up I know what I am doing" button.

Such a feature already exists in Mathcad for a long time. Redefinitions are flagged by green wavy underlines. I usually have it turned off, though. Its one of the many features which are not (yet?) implemented in Prime.
I ever used the old Mathcad. Good to know it was there. Hopefully it might come to Prime. Maybe when we get to Prime 6 ?

Prime 6 - I certainly hope so

Mathcad PM
(see please http://communities.ptc.com/groups/mathcad-pm-prime-minister)
has not 2 but 3 levels of variables redefinitions checking:
