Fluid flow calculations go by the now unique ISO-5167. It replaces all previous materials {Spink, AGA, ASME, AFNOR. BS, DIN ...). There are four large classes of metering devices:
1. The Orifice Plate that you calculate ISO-5167
2. The "Venturi types" that you don't calculate (Dhall tube, nozzles, Venturi (long/short)
3. Averaging Pitot tube (Annubar) that you don't calculate.
4. Others: Magnetic flow meters, Nuclear, Ultrasonic, Thermal, Moulinet, Rotameter, Vortex, Swirl, Impact...
At this point, you have to reclassify for the non-compressible and compressible fluids and the type of fluids: dirty, clean. Your question is too general for a specific answer or guidance. There are excellent books (Miller) from Omega Instruments.
ISO-5167 is a booklet not directly usable but the formulation is all complete in this collab for the sharp edge orifice plate.
