Maybe it addresses your problem.
The article does not specify in detail which "specific systems" are affected.
Basically it just suggest changing the default Windows printer.

Resolution

Change the default printer for the system

To change the default printer, select the Start button and then Settings

Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage. Then select Set as default.

If you have let Windows manage my default printer selected, you'll need to deselect it before you can choose a default printer on your own.

If issue is not resolved by changing the default printer

Update the driver to latest version for the printer configured on the issue machine.

Users working with latest driver, try to uninstall and re-install the drivers of printer .

Use a different user account on the machine and check the issue still reproduced, as the issue could be caused due to corrupted user profile.

If the issue turns out to be specific to a user, please check recreating that issue user profile helps

The article states that the problem applies to Prime 1 - 8, but I guess this does not necessarily mean that it was fixed in Prime 9. It may just mean that the case was filed at the time P8 was the current version and never was updated.
I fully understand your reservations about a re-installation. I also hate it when the only suggested 'solutions' to a software problem in a forum are to reinstall the software or even reinstall the operating system as a whole.
