Recalculate Plot in Prime 10

Hi Folks,

The 'Chart Component' plot assumes an X range of -10 to 10.  When I zoom in on a plot, it doesn't recalculate so Delta-X doesn't change.  Curves are sometimes longer smooth (example below).  It seems like there should be a way to recalculate a plot after zooming in, but I don't see anything.  Am I missing something?

Thanks for your attention 🙂

Mark

Could you please post a worksheet that allows us to evaluate the problem?

Thanks,

Stuart

Sure, here's f(x)=sin(12*x).  I let it default to the x=[-10 10] and zoomed in.  I've also attached the file in Prime 10.  It's not surprising that the resolution is bad when I zoom in.  Is there a way I can get it to recalculate?

Thanks for taking a look 🙂

I was just about to post that I'd seen the problem.  I used the sigmoid function to get a sharpish bend.

I've had a quick play, but I'm afraid I can't see any way to get the Chart Component to increase its x-axis resolution.

Apart from changing the x values outside of the Chart.

Thanks Stuart.  That's the same solution I worked out, but it seemed a little brute force.  I figured there had to be something better.  Prime 10 still has a few quirks, but the only thing I think is still obviously broken is plotting.

Quickplots are handy, but needlessly crude - not even grid lines or axis labels.  The Chart Component produces nice plots but only works for XY plots.  Plotting in V15 was probably more useful than in Prime 10.  Hopefully, they'll fix that.

No problem, Mark.

Whilst Mathcad Prime (MP) 10 is better in many ways than its predecessors, there are still a few "broken" and omitted things that need fixing.

I'm delighted that MP 10 now has Advanced Controls.  I hope the ability to write scripts and get at the API of other objects is in the pipeline.   That might get around some of the difficulties with setting attributes on plot components.  This would also need to be coupled with the ability to use an advanced component on the body of a function definition.

An array display component is among the most significant needs (Picture Component in M11..M15). The inability to display an array, especially B&W and Colour images, is a marked omission, and I am keenly anticipating PTC adding it to MP.

I've also been struggling recently with the inability to define recursive local functions ... makes encapsulation of functions difficult when working with nested arrays.

The array system desperately (from my POV) needs an empty array; a major use would be initialization of vectors, matrices, or other arrays before some iteration process.

I don't know whether I just haven't looked hard enough, but there doesn't appear to be an ability to plot nested meshes in the 3D Plot component.  This broke a few of my worksheets and I can't find any reasonable workarounds.

There are more, some of which I believe are planned for future MP versions, but these are the ones that have recently been noticeable by their absence.

But, I think overall MP 10 is a big improvement on its predecessors.

Stuart
