Solving Equations - Tutorial

In this chapter, we will explore how Mathcad can be used to help you manipulate and solve equations. You will learn that Mathcad can solve an equation for any variable, substitute an expression into an equation, and even solve multiple equations for several variables simultaneously. In addition, we will give advice on how these features can help you solve the tough, multiple-step problems in some of your math and science classes.

This tutorial is really really great.

However, it might be outdated because Mathcad Prime 4.0 doesn't behave as described.

Specifically, page 5 when adding the "solve,v2f" operator to the equation at the top of the page, it is solved numerically ("2.mph") instead of algebraically.

Which makes the whole demonstration of this exercise fails (to my point of view).

What should be done in latest release to show equation solving without numerical resolution ?

This tutorial was already outdated the day it was posted. Prime was and still is a mediocre piece of software, especially compared to older Mathcad versions like the current V15 or the even better V11. At the times of Prime 2 (maybe 3) PTC decided to quickly and sloppily convert older (and sometimes very old) Mathcad sheets to Prime format and publish them here, to feign content that does not actually exist.

The conversion was done quite sloppily, obviously b people not aware of the differences between the version. They automatically converted the sheets and published them, ignoring the fact that the sheets might refer to one of the many feature not available in Prime.

The sheet refers to a feature called static symbolical evaluation. Its not available in Prime.

The simplification is done symbolically, but because the involved variables were assigned values before, the symbolics takes these values in account wen solving for v2f.

You would have to clear the variables - either completely (using clear(..) ) or just for symbolic evaluation:
