Are you mirroring my question there http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-3496 ?

What's the problem with this? You've used continued fractions yourself quite a lot in the past.

Mathcad does not look HOW you have written your LHS expression and tries to make an as simplified continued fraction (smallest possible power of x) as possible, I think.

In this case, the output looks rightly:

The other is right, too 😉

In your last example there seems to be no simpler representation as continued fraction.

Replace the "1+" in the denominator by "1-x+" (thats similar to your first example) and see what happens.

The left column in the resulting matrix never should contain a variable in a correct simplified continued fraction, I guess.

Lokk at that simplified example. In the second expression you would have expected a 2x2 mtraix with 1-x in the lower left.
