Orbital ATK core business is to support the motors of various systems, which includes an assessments of the performance of the motors today and into the future. To facilitate these assessments information about the environmental exposure, is collected and analyzed to form performance predictions. The company has been developing a modular system which can capture this information from disparate technologies and integrate the information into usable data which is then processed to produce the performance predictions. As part of development of this system, different methods for collecting and transferring the data within the system have been investigated. This session summarized a proof-of-concept to investigate one such method that uses the ThingWorx IoT platform to collect, manage, and parse sensor data from remote assets. The presenter also shared the lessons learned developing an IoT system utilizing the ThingWorx platform on a real-world example from the rocket industry.
