We're having a lot of machine shop delays this year, and I feel it's because of "sponsor fatigue" - they just haven't seen a lot of business benefit. We put our sponsors on our web site, our robot, our shirts, and our literature, but I feel as if that's just doing the minimum expected. How can our team go above and beyond when it comes to promoting our sponsors? How can we ensure that the sponsor actually experiences increased sales due to their involvement with our team?
We've had some luck having our sponsors actually come out into the community with our students. They set up demos and stuff for casual observers to view that generated more support than we normally would have gotten. We also contacted local news stations/newspapers/etc. and got them to highlight what the team (and of course, the sponsors) are doing. We don't have any data on whether or not their sales actually increased during this time, but they certainly got more publicity and the sponsors enjoyed doing this.
