I am having a problem accessing support pages once Google Analytics has appended it's cross domain tracking "stuff" to the URL. For example, attempting to access this URL:
http://support.ptc.com/help/creo/creo_pma/usascii/index.html#page/detail/dims_switching.html
automatically turns into this URL:
Normally that wouldn't matter except the second URL doesn't work (for me):
Manually removing the extra "stuff" from the URL in the brower's address bar does allow the intended page to correctly load.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for making us aware, and this is reproducible for me (and works fine when I remove the GA URL params). I've opened an infrastructure case for our team to investigate and fix this, and have also made the content owners aware.
Peter
Hi Tom,
I've added this to the Community Issue Tracker, item #229:
After evaluation, you should see progress in the Active and Resolved list.
Thanks,
Peter.
Thanks Peter. If I had my choice, the GA string wouldn't get added at all. It makes it a pain anytime I want to copy and paste a URL.
Hi Tom,
I'm checking internally where the hold-up is. Either we need the GA params to be lees intrisive, or our web servers which contain the help centers to be less sensitive. Sorry you've not seen any progress on this since reporting it.
I'll respond this week, once we have a plan to fix.
Still checking, Tom. Sorry I don't have an answer so far. I've escalated this today.
Thanks for the update.
Hi Tom,
Root cause is established ("&" for GA URL parameter when it should be "?"). I'm working with our Community Manager to get this addressed.
Thanks,
Peter.
Not sure if the webteam would consider it, but here is a method to use Google Analytics for cross domain tracking without altering the URLs:
