Happy Liveworx to those attending next week.
I am looking forward to leaving, tomorrow at dawn, for Udine for the largest gathering in the world (an estimated 350,000 to 400,000 people) of an association of arms (in our case those who served in the Alpine troops).

It is 15 October 1872, in the folds of a royal decree which provides for the expansion of the number of military districts, it is indicated that some are established in alpine areas with a district company on staff for recruitment and training according to particular mountain tasks. It is the official birth certificate of the Alpini Corps. 140 years of history have passed since that first decree in which the characteristics of the Alpino emerge: sense of duty, attachment to traditions, pride in the emblems that characterize it, esprit de corps, solidarity between fellow soldiers and the continuity of these values even once on leave. This continuity of values is the basis on which the National Alpine Association rests. At the end of the Great War, envisaged as the completion of the unification of Italy, the veterans, who have experienced great sacrifices, believe they have the right not only to a climate of peace but also to gratitude. The reality is very different, strikes, street fights, derision, contempt, hostility, denial of those values for which they fought, spontaneously give rise to the firm stance of most of them. The recruitment on a valley basis, the spontaneous solidarity of the mountaineer, the feelings of brotherhood born and strengthened in the long months lived side by side in the unique peculiarity of warfare in the mountains, the awareness of always and in any case being able to count on a fellow soldier in every situation, all contribute to strengthen the ties while keeping them intact even once they return to civilian life. In this climate and with these sentiments, a good number of them regularly frequent the Spaten Brau brewery in Milan in the certainty of finding an environment of common ideas and solidarity. Among memories, still so alive and present, comments and simple chatter, the proposal to form a partnership between those who served in the Alpine troops began to take shape. On June 12, 1919, a first meeting was held to put the idea into practice. Among the decisions, a fundamental concept was approved: the possibility of enrollment not only for those who have carried out military service in the Alpini since 1872 (year of birth of the Corps), for veterans of the African Campaigns of 1887, 1895, 1911-12 and of the The Great War has just ended, but in the future, also to those who would be called up for military service in the Alpini.
