Installing Creo 2 on a computer running Wildfire 5

Installing Creo 2 on a computer running Wildfire 5

I have an updated license file that lists both creo 2 and wilfire 5 but for some reason when I launch creo 2 is says license file not valid. Wildfire 5 works fine with the new license file. How do I make sure the creo points to the correct license file? This is a node locked license for a single laptop so maybe there is an easier way to install them both. Any input would be helpful. We are not on maintenance so trying to figure this out without ptc. Thank you in advance

Lawrence,

the list contains two license managers (this state is not correct):

  • FLEXnet Admin Version 11.10.1 Datecode [M160]
  • PTC License Server Release Wildfire 5.0 Datecode M050

My suggestion (you will need license file received from PTC via email and Wildfire 5.0 Datecode M050 installation DVD😞

  • uninstall FLEXnet Admin Version 11.10.1 Datecode [M160] and remove its installationdirectory C:\Program Files\PTC\FLEXnet Admin License Server
  • uninstall PTC License Server Release Wildfire 5.0 Datecode M050 and remove its installation directory - its name is flexnet or flexlm and is located in C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files directory
  • make a copy of license file received from PTC via email and modify it - remove INCREMENT block that contain version 31.0 (blocks that contain version 33.0 remain in license file)
    • INCREMENT PROE_FoundationAdv ptc_d 31.0 ...
    • INCREMENT 127 ptc_d 31.0 ...
  • install License manager from Wildfire 5.0 Datecode M050 installation DVD and use modified license file during installation
  • when installation is finished, you will be able to run Wildfire 5.0 or Creo Parametric Version 2.0

  • MKS Platform Components 9.x (it is related to CADDS5 system)
  • PTC Creo Platform Agent 2.43 (it is needed when user uses Windchill PDMLink or Learning Connector)
  • PTC Diagnostic Tools (it enables sending information about your installation to PTC)

Not yet, gave up for a little bit and used Wildfire for my current project. Will certainly need access to CREO soon. PTC said that my CREO2 license will work for any build code of CREO2.

Yes, Initial doubt about having two license manager is the culprit. You can refer suggestion from Martin or prior to that make a trail with below steps:

1. Copy new license to desktop

2. Stop the service lmadmin_ptc (It will be under system services).

3. Uninstall FLEXnet Admin Version 11.10.1 Datecode [M160]

4. Open license.dat from Flexnet install directory (C:\program files (or x86)\flexnet\licenses) in text editor

5. Copy server and daemon lines

6. Overwrite existing server and daemon lines in new licenses file on desktop with copied lines from old license.

7. Save file as license.dat

8. Rename license.dat in flexnet install directory as license.dat.old

9. Copy license.dat from desktop and place in flexnet\license folder

10. Restart the machine.

I hope this will solve the issue.

Going to try this and see if it works. I also noticed that Mechanica Lite is greyed out under Capability Mode section for some reason. Any idea on why that would be?

I think you don't have license for Mechanica. Check your license file for features MECBASICENG_License and MECBASICUI_License. If Mechanica license is not in license, application will report error in image 1.

Correct, but from my understanding Mechinca Lite doesn't require a Mechanica License.

Did you installed Mechanica when installing Pro/ENGINEER? If not that could be one of the possible reasons.

Not originally but I went back and reinstalled adding mechanica files. Restarted wildfire and still the same error.

Lawrence,

I also suggest you to make a fresh installation Creo Parametric + Creo Simulate. My personal rule is ... modification of existing installation using Creo installer is forbidden.
