License Request Failure on Startup

License Request Failure on Startup

We have a number of users encountering an issue on startup. Whenever we turn on a PC and open an instance of Creo 11.0.4.0, we get an error with the heading "License Warning" and the message "License request failed for feature".  (see attached image)

Our current workaround is going to Windows Services and restarting "lmadmin_ptc". This has to be done every time after a computer is restarted or shut down.

I've tried reconfiguring the licenses and reinstalling the license server, but haven't found a fix for this. It's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to not have this extra step every time we run Creo after a shutdown.

Is each computer running its own license server? Your message implies this is the case. If so, it sounds like the service lmadmin_ptc is not set up to run automatically at startup. Or, something is not properly configured and is preventing it from starting. If my suppositions are incorrect, let us know. Someone has likely experienced what you are dealing with.

Yes, each computer is running its own server, but lmadmin is configured to auto-start when you turn the computer on. When I go to services after booting the computer but before running Creo, lmadmin status shows as running, startup type as automatic, and log on as local system. I need to restart the lmadmin service in order to avoid getting the Creo startup error.

Are you only running flexlm services for one program, or are there other software packages that utilize Flexlm? This sounds suspiciously like the kind of thing that would happen when we were running two Flexlm-governed applications. Whichever license management service was started last would be the "winner", effectively making the other one unable to function. Don't remember the trick to get it going, this was years and years ago, we were running FlowEFD along with Creo (before PTC implemented its own CFD stuff).

I've tried the solutions mentioned here, but none of them worked. I've been trying to work on it with my company's IT group, and the best the we've been able to find is that I need to manually restart the license server every time. Annoying, but it gets the job done.

If you're out of options, you might consider talking to the people that sold your company your licenses. These VARs (value added resellers?) deal with licensing problems a lot because that's the first thing they have to do when setting up clients.

Hi,

I met the same problem in the past. It was caused by the fact that at the time the lmadmin_ptc service was started, the network card for which the license was generated was not available in Windows.

Steps to execute ...

In my "situation" I used value 10000 (this means service start was delayed by 10 seconds).
