Model reference in two generics

Another "Wild West" mode question:

In the line of text, I have an error message that "pops" up. A certain model (i.e. model block1234.prt) has been reference in two generics. Is there a way to find out what the generics are so that I can clean this up?

INFO>REFERENCE VIEWER

This will show all the references and dependencies

Do you do the info>reference view when you have the model open?

This pops ups even when I am not using the particular model.

Open the part ftc 2601.

Go to info-Reference viewer (in wf5)

or

Go to tools-Reference viewer (in creo)

Then take a screenshot and upload

looks like you have two generics with family table in working dir or search paths which contain the same instance name.

no. Open each .idx file in notepad and do a text search for block1234.prt.

In one of the .idx files, I had a FTC2601 & a FTC2601_old. This should not have caused an issues, correct?

The first column if the .idx shows the instance, the second one the generic.

Delete your generic FTC2601_old or move it to a folder which is not included in a search path.

When you say it is supposed to be in the second column, I am slightly confused. My *.idx file is spiral - like a barber pole.

You could try another editor, I use notepad++.

(There are different codes for line feed and carriage return in Windows and UNIX)

I got it to work in a word document, 138 pages. I save it off to a different name so that I can edit it.

I am not sure what the first column is, but it is a #1.

Is the second column the instance/part?

Is the third column the parent/assmbly that the part goes into or is it the family to which the instance belongs?

If I find duplicate in column #2, this should be resolved by renaming one or the other, correct?

You are right, column #2 is the instance name, #3 the generic name.

Deleting/renaming must be done in ProE with for safety reasons only the generic and assemblies where the instance is used in session.

Saving the generic will update the index file.

To find out where the instance is used try findmymother by arossbach.
