In some cases, after you have created Thing Shapes, Templates, Things and mashups it could appear that you want to change the names because you found out some typographical errors or need to change the existing names from a logical/structural/organization point of view .
Our customer does not want to delete or copy them because there are existing relations between the "Things" themselves and the mashups
Is it planned for a future release?
Thanks
Christoph
Christoph, direct renaming of entities is unfortunately not available at the moment. The workaround for this is to duplicate the entity and then add the corrected name to them.
thanks Aanjan! it would be great to know if we have any plans for that.
This actually has been a long standing feature request. There's no roadmap yet for this feature, but I'll be able to provide you with more information once the Jira is updated or I hear back from the devs. Thanks!
hi,
You can also export your entities and change name in the xml file.
Although it is possible this way, it is not a good practice and definitely not recommended to change the names in the xml file. Missing one occurrence, or adding unintended special characters might break the import too.
+1 To this feature request.

I would say copying an renaming is a bad practice because all the service bindings in the Mashups etc. are not copied as well and you have to redo it.

Hello,
Isn't it possible to make a modification in the database, if yes what would be the tables which need to be updated, apart from thing_model, what are the logical connections?
Best regards,
Marius
The answer to this thread from the officially supported PTC perspective has not change: it is currenly not possible to rename existing entities.
