and status of tomcat get a message with "Trailing garbage, ignoring." in line
'ExecStart=/usr/share/tomcat8.5/8.5.13/bin/jsvc \'
I had similar issue under CentOS
Even through failed "sudo systemctl enable tomcat.service" tomcat has been started without error as "sudo systemctl start tomcat" command
Did you get any issue during "jsvc" step such as tar/make etc.. ?
Thanks,
Dane
Here is suggestion..
1. Stop all process for tomcat
2. Grant all permission to tomcat installation directory - sudo chmod -R 777 .....
3. Start tomcat as "startup.sh" as root
4. Access to UI
If failed please share "catalina.out"
Thanks,
Dane
Thanks,

Based on the error message "Trailing garbage, ignoring" looks you have some character after "\". Can you share 'tomcat.service' file?
