Vuforia view field of view - case study

Dear community,

we've released an in-company experience to guide technicians on a series of very detailed steps and keep trace of all the progress.

Our "issue" is the field of view related to the type of activity. It has to be done on a desk with our component inside a box in a vacuum state.

The device (in this case a tablet) would be hard to put in the middle between the operator and the box.

That said, we decided to implement the freeze in order to follow the steps with the tablet on the side.

Here comes the first question: have anyone ever had the need to use a second camera as main camera so it could be mounted on a tripod while keep using the tablet to interact with the experience?

Since we're not using a second camera, we noticed that the field of view of the tablet (at the moment we're using an iPad) is really small and also close to the object. So it's almost impossible to work sit on the work table while looking at the screen, the techician must stand up, raise hands and only then freeze the view. Not the best of the user experience at all.. Therefore our second question: isn't it possible to change the field of view having a "more distant view"? Like a zoom out I mean.. The standard camera have a different native zoom so it's possible to work normally at closer distances.

So key point for us here are:
- possibility to use a secondary camera as main AR camera

- possibility to like zoom-out the view in the experience (it doesn't have to be dynamic)

Thanks!

Hello @AndreaT ,

I think that is interesting view point as applicaiton request. But possibly the mean concept of the augmeted reality supported  by Stuido wll no conver the mentioned requirement , so I think.

So let consider the zoom out. The question is zoom out of what?

- Zoom aut of the displayed camera field  is not possible and you need to move device to have a change of the visible field. You will see via the camera  the real word. Do you wnat here to have some effect as looking via telescope? So means that you will see a object which is  in specific distance - so that it will be displayed near. So far you have some lense what should make that possible but so far I know that Studio does not support that directly - it supports only the default settings

-according to the augmetnation that could be easy to have some zoom out. You could scale the model and move it in respect to the world coordinate system (define by the target) .When here is a model Target used - so possibly if you requires a variable scale and position setting of the augmentation model you can use 2 models - the one for the display and the second /simpliefied for the target generation.

-currently Studio support only one camera - the default camera . So we have https://developer.vuforia.com/library/vuforia-engine/platform-support/camera/vuforia-camera-bridge/ but so far I know that is only for Engine app devs.

<Vuforia Camera Bridge>
Vuforia Camera Bridge is an adapter interface to enable Vuforia apps installed on UWP devices to access external cameras that do not fall within Vuforia Engine's supported camera devices. The Camera Bridge is available for Windows machines as a standalone executable.

- so Studio support at current time the Android and IOS for mobile

- possibly a second camera could be displayed on video panel but you need a streem which could be shared to Studio e.g. via repository - but I do not believe that we can get it in real time. So particular picture could be shared from different camera or second Stuidio session with some delay - that will possibly work.
