Migration from Solid Works Enterprise PDM to Windchill.

Hello All,

I am looking for migration from SolidWorks Enterprise PDM to Windchill.

Please suggest me some best practices and Vault export and import methods ...

I have Assemblies, parts and drawings in Enterprise PDM and some related documents.

All above mentioned objects i want to move in to Windchill.

Thanks in advance

Windchill has the Solidworks Workgroup Manager that is a direct connect to the Solidworks models. You will need to use Windchill though in lieu of ePDM as your PDM system. Not sure of any other direct links from Solidworks to Windchill.

I believe that Llngashetty is asking about migrating data from SolidWorks EPDM to Windchill, not linking to the SolidWorks PDM database from Windchill. I am looking for a similar solution - migrating my SolidWorks EPDM data over to Windchill 10.1, and then using Windchill/PDMLink with the SolidWorks Workgroup Manager enhancement as our PLM tool from now on.

Anyone had success in doing this?

We ended up having to bring in the top assembly of each product in to the Workgroup manager and checking them in product by product. The main issues doing it this way:

  • You lose the historical data from ePDM
  • Very time consuming to weed through the multiple errors and warnings
  • Conflicts arise when using the same parts in different products.
    • You can do some work to synch them, but it is also very time consuming

We couldn't find an easier answer, but doesn't mean there isn't one out there.

Lingashetty,

is this question solved or do you still look for a solution?

We are a compoany focussing on data migration solutions. We have a big background in both SWx PDM / SWx and Windchill. (BTW: Windchill means PDM Link? or Windchill Enterprise? or ?)

I am currently looking for a pilot project for a migration to Windchill or PDM Link.

Thus, your request sounds very interesting to me.
