SQL Cloned Server Question

SQL Cloned Server Question

I'm attempting to clone our production servers (VM) into a test set and we're light on SQL support. Any guidance is appreciated.

The Rehost Guide goes over backing up the SQL server and restoring the database to the new machine, which is pretty clear. But before that, do I simply clone the SQL server then delete the database?

All of this will take place apart from the network so reconfiguring hostnames can occur before returning online.

Thanks,
-Ter

I think all you need to do is export the db as instructed and then import it into the target selecting the option to "override existing database".

You need to install Oracle on your clone system. It has to be set up properly to run. Once you have done that then you import the database backup into it and then configure your cloned Windchill setup to point to the new database service.

Copying Oracle over and trying to run it won't work as there are registry settings, etc that have to be set up to make it work properly.
