What are Views in PdmLink

Hello Experts

What are views in Pdmlink? Are these similar to "Bom" views in other PLM systems?

I can see the same Part can be in both views with same item number and revision.

On a side note, the Rest Api doesnt seem to have a filter on View

Thanks

I suggest you start reading Windchill help on views meaning

https://support.ptc.com/help/wnc/r12.1.1.0/en/index.html#page/Windchill_Help_Center/viewadmin/ViewAdminAbout.html

In PTC Windchill PDMLink, views are used to organize and present product information from various perspectives. They provide a way to define different configurations or representations of product data, allowing users to view specific sets of information based on their needs or roles within the organization.

Views in PDMLink are similar to BOM (Bill of Materials) views in other PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems, but they offer more flexibility. In addition to representing the product structure, views can include additional attributes, relationships, CAD representations, documents, and more.

A view in PDMLink can be created for different purposes, such as engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, or service. Each view can have its own set of rules, access controls, and display configurations. Users can switch between different views to access the specific information they require without changing the underlying data.

Regarding your observation about the same part being present in multiple views with the same item number and revision, it is possible in PDMLink to include the same part in multiple views. This allows different stakeholders to have visibility into the part from their respective perspectives without duplicating the underlying data. It helps to maintain consistency and avoids redundancy.

As for the REST API not having a filter on views, it may depend on the specific version and configuration of PDMLink you are using. The availability of filters for views in the REST API can vary. It's recommended to refer to the official documentation or consult with your system administrator or PTC support for more information on how to filter views using the REST API in your specific PDMLink environment.
