Windchill Desktop Integration and non-office file comparisons

I see that the configuration allows you to specify a different command to compare something other than default Office extensions. Has anyone done this?  Specifically, have you done this with PDF?  Looks like they have a Javascript to process and do some validation.  There does not appear to be notes in help files on this.

this functionality was set up to allow outside comparison tools to be defined other than the builtin tools for Word and Excel. i used to show beyond compare as an alternative, but i cannot remember using acrobat or another tool for comparing PDF files.
